Before You Arrive
If you are new to Blackstone Animal Hospital, please send your pet’s medical records before your appointment when possible. This helps our veterinarians review vaccine history, previous test results, medications, and ongoing health concerns.
Please let us know ahead of time if your pet:
- Gets nervous at the vet
- Has a history of fear, stress, or aggression
- Takes medications or supplements
- Has had vaccine or medication reactions
- Has coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, or other contagious symptoms
- May need same-day or urgent care
The more we know in advance, the better we can prepare for your pet’s comfort and safety.
What Happens During the Appointment?
When you arrive, our team will check you in and gather any details we need about your pet’s health. Your veterinarian will examine your pet, discuss any concerns, and explain findings clearly.
If testing, vaccines, medications, dental care, surgery, or follow-up care are recommended, we will review the reason for each step before moving forward. Our goal is to help you feel informed, not pressured.
Comfort-Focused Care for Dogs and Cats
Blackstone Animal Hospital uses Fear Free and Cat Friendly handling techniques to help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress during veterinary visits. Our team watches your pet’s body language, adjusts our approach, and takes steps to make the experience feel more manageable.
For dogs and cats, this may include gentle handling, treats, breaks during the exam, a slower pace, or pre-visit medication for pets who need extra support. Cats often benefit from extra patience, a quieter approach, and feline-friendly handling strategies, especially if travel or exams make them anxious.
If your pet has struggled with veterinary visits in the past, please tell us when you book. We can help you plan ahead so your pet’s visit feels calmer and more comfortable.
Same-Day and Emergency Care
If something changes suddenly with your pet’s health, please call us right away. Blackstone Animal Hospital offers daytime emergency and same-day urgent care when our schedule and staffing allow, and our team can help you decide the best next step before you make the trip in.
We do not provide overnight hospitalization. If your pet needs after-hours care, advanced emergency support, or overnight monitoring, we will help direct you to an emergency veterinary hospital that can continue their care.
Payment and Estimates
We want you to feel informed before making decisions about your pet’s care. Payment is due at the time services are provided, and when diagnostics, treatment, surgery, or dental care are recommended, our team will review the plan and provide an estimate whenever possible.
We accept common payment methods, can provide documentation for pet insurance claims, and may be able to offer financing through LendCare. If you have questions about cost, please let us know so we can talk through your options together.
